From: Officer's Journal; PC Joseph SmithPC Smith attended Cambridge to collect prisoner James Gurford a chimney sweep charged with being drunk and riotous in High Street Bishops Stortford on Thursday 24th August 1882. Gave evidence against him at the Petty Sessions held at the Corn Exchange in Bishops Stortford and he was sentenced to [?] days with hard labour at Cambridge Prison.
