PC Smith attended the Petty Sessions held before the Reverend F Vander-Meulen at the Corn Exchange Bishops Stortford in the case of Philip Jenkins who had absconded from the Bishops Stortford Union on the 11th January 1882. He then conferred with PS Parish and subsequently escorted Jenkins to Cambridge gaol.

PC Smith appeared before Reverend F Vander-Meulen Magistrate in the case of Mary Harvey aged 65 of Sawbridgeworth who was charged with being drunk and incapable in North Street on Thursday 8th and was Discharged,

PC Smith received a report of another stolen horse this time a chestnut mare of 14 1/2 hands with a white face and a square tail with broken wind stolen during the night of 3rd August 1882 from Roydon. He made enquiries in Bishops Stortford.

PC Smith attended the Bishops Stortford Petty Sessions held at the Corn Exchange and before Magistrate Reverend F Vander-Meulen he gave evidence in the case of George Clark of Witham who was charged with being drunk and disorderly in Church Street Bishops Stortford the night before. He was sentenced to 14 days in prison.
