Assault On Police
From: Officer's Journal; PC Joseph SmithPC Smith was on duty in High Street Bishops Stortford on the 24th August 1882 at 11.30 pm when he arrested James William Gurford a chimney sweep and chair repairer for being drunk and disorderly and in doing so he was assaulted in the execution of his duty.
On 26th August PC Smith attended before the Reverend F Vander-Meulen Magistrate at the Petty Sessions held at the Corn Exchange Bishops Stortford when Gurford was remanded to Cambridge Prison to appear at the Petty Sessions to be held on the 31st August.
