Giving Evidence At The Petty Sesions
From: Officer's Journal; PC Joseph SmithPC Smith attended the Bishops Stortford Petty Sessions held at the Corn Exchange and gave evidence in two cases. Firstly against William Handscombe a bricklayer of Bishops Stortford who was charged with being drunk and disorderly on the 1st October in Rye Street Bishops Stortford and secondly against Henry Prior a labourer of Bishops Stortford who was charged with a breach of the peace by fighting also in Rye Street on the 1st October. Both men were convicted. Handscombe was fined 10 shillings including costs and given 7 days to pay and Prior was bound over in the sum of 7 shillings and 6 pence to keep the peace for one month.
