Transcript
At 2.15pm today, I was on duty in South Street, Bps. Stortford. I saw John William Allen of 64 Gayville Road, Wandsworth riding a bicycle about 1 yard from the path in South Street near Perry lodging house at a pace of 8 to 10 miles an hour. I saw a boy age 6 years name Miller, grandson of Mr Miller of South Hill, walking on the path in the company of his father& grandfather. The boy run [ran] across the path into the gutter & the bicycle knocked the boy down before the man could stop. The man did not seem to have time to ring his bell so he applied the brake to his bicycle . The boy was picked up and his nose was bleeding & a large swollen place over the right eye on the fore head. The boy Miller was taken to Doctor Agnew by his grandfather & the doctor dressed the head & the boy Miller walked home. John William went down to Doctor Agnew’s and paid for what the doctor had done to the boy’s head & took the boy’s name & address & said he would call & see Doctor Agnew on Tuesday next & pay any further bill which might be incured [incurred] & visit the boy personally as he is passing through Stortford to London on Tuesday.Police officer
