Post Office Burglary - Ormskirk
From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...From Chief Constable to All Stations – Copy of letter received. I am instructed to inform you that during the night of 13th Dec certain persons at present unknown are reported are reported to have entered Hornskirk [This is misspelled it is in fact Ormskirk as seen in newspaper articles at the time Ed.] Post Office and to have stolen there from out of a small safe Postage Stamps to the value of £18/0/6, coin to the value of £16/19/8, and four Registered letters that were awaiting delivery, one of the Registered letters contained 4 £5 Bank of England notes No. 33T 13346 to 9 inclusive, the other three contained jewellery described as follows, letter No. 2 sapphire & diamond half hoop ring set with three sapphires and 2 diamonds, letter No. 3 heavy silver gilt neckless cable pattern, letter No. 4 two large double twist link bracelets 15 ct gold safety chain attached no padlock or strap.
