The King Travels To Newmarket
From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...The Chief Constable to A and B Divisions – The King will leave St. Pancras by the 12.5 p.m. Great Eastern train (ordinary) on Tuesday 28th for Newmarket arriving at 1,45 p.m. The King’s portion of the train will be as a special between Cambridge and Newmarket.
[From the Westminster Gazette – Tuesday 28 October 1902 – THE KING’S JOURNEY. A large number of people assembled at St. Pancras this morning to witness the departure of the King for Newmarket. Lord Claud Hamilton, Chairman of the Great Eastern Railway Company, was at the station to receive his Majesty, who chatted with him for a few minutes before the train left at 12.5. The King, who wore a grey overcoat and brown felt hat, and was attended by the Hon. J. Ward, is expected to return to town about the end of the week. Ed.]
