    The son of a Hertfordshire Police Sergeant who was a Royal Naval veteran of WW1, joined Herts Constabulary in 1937, joined the Special Investigation Branch as a photographer in 1942 and was discharged in 1945, re-joined Herts Constabulary and retired after 25 years.
