Mr Joseph Houghton, the postmaster in Little Hadham, reported that a hen and 14 chickens had been stolen from a coop in the meadow behind his house. Enquiries were made throughout the neighbourhood but no clues were found.

The officer received a report from Mr W. Thrift that a strange man had been seen hanging around Little Hadham. The man was a discharged soldier, and having been questioned near Mr Parry’s lodge, appeared to pose no threat.
