Inquest On Thomas Johnson
From: Officers' Journal; Robert Milton PC 160PC Milton was with PC 176 Hart in the vicinity of Furneaux Pelham and Brent Pelham regarding two girls who had been assaulted. He later conferred with Sergeant 30 and then went to East End and warned Emily Johnson and George Phillips to attend the Inquest at Bishops Stortford.
The following day PC Milton attended the Inquest at Bishops Stortford Union Infirmary and gave evidence respecting the death of Thomas Johnson.
(The Herts & Cambs Reporter & Royston Crow dated Friday 21 September 1906 reported that at an Inquest the Coroner heard that a Thomas Johnson a Thatcher aged 49 of East End had cut his own throat on Friday 31st August 1906. He was found by his daughter and a Doctor moved him to the Union Infirmary. He made good progress until the 5th September when he showed signs of infection. He died on the 9th. Inquest verdict – Death from self inflicted wounds caused during temporary insanity. Ed.)
