From: Officers' Journal; Robert Milton PC 160PC Milton was instructed to go to Little Hadham regarding a highway robbery which took place between Little Hadham and Bishops Stortford. The following day he was tasked with making further enquiries in the area,
(It was reported in the local press that a Mark Avis, a Commercial Traveller of Cambridge, had been attacked on Tuesday 20th February 1906, beaten about the head with a hedge stake, and was in the Bishops Stortford Infirmary in a critical condition. His money had been stolen and his sample bag was found the following day in a ditch at Farnham, Ed.)
