The officer received a report from Mr W. Thrift stating that the pigs he had bought from Mr Sworder’s yard in Bishop’s Stortford were suffering from swine fever. The veterinary doctor James Webb was called and the area declared infected.

The officer received a report from Mr W. Thrift that a strange man had been seen hanging around Little Hadham. The man was a discharged soldier, and having been questioned near Mr Parry’s lodge, appeared to pose no threat.
