Transcript
Mr Loveday, watchmaker, Potter Street, reported to me about 5pm that he had missed a Paste Brooch with a chicken’s claw, value 4s/6d from a tray in his shop. He pointed a girl out to me in North St. and said she had just left the shop ad said no one else had been in, and he suspected her of having it. I went with Mr Loveday and saw the girl and spoke to her about it. She said “I have not got it” and said she was willing to be searched. She then went back to the shop and turned her pockets out in my presence but Mr Loveday was not satisfied with that and said to the girl “will you mind going to the Police Station and see the Superintendent” and she said “ yes I am quite willing to be searched”. Her name is Alla Cummings, Scullery Maid to Sir James Blyth, Blythwood House, Stansted, Essex.Police officer
