Copy of Message from Supt Pryke, 29 Aug 1901. Wanted for stealing from a Blacksmith’s Shop at North End Great Malthouse on 29th inst. some blacksmith’s tools including a hammer etc. (recovered) also a new rasp (not recovered) the property of Wm. Coe. A man of the following description, aged about 40 5 ft 6 or 7, slight light moustache wearing a week’s growth of beard, left arm appeared to be off at elbow, dress dark cap, dark jacket & waistcoat, supposed cord trousers and lace boots, black & white plaid scarf. Lodged at lodging house at Dunmow on 26th& 27th inst. and left about 7am on 28th inst.. Gave name of George Hayes about a month ago when he lodged in Casual Ward at Dunmow. States he has been a soldier. Was heard of between Dunmow and Thaxted today.Towns and villages
