Wanted For Fraud Belton - Rickmansworth
From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...From Superintendent Wood to All Stations – Wanted on Warrant for obtaining money on false pretence at Rickmansworth on 20th July 1903 a man who gave the name of Wm. Belton late of 3 Stanley Street, Paddington, age about 44, 5 ft 10, dark hair and complexion, dark auburn hair and moustache close cropped, stout build, dress blue Milton cloth overcoat velvet collar, black bowler hat, shabby general appearance, good address, his modus operandi is to call on tradesmen and induces them to advertise their businesses in a portfolio in the form of a Blotting Pad for the purpose of being laid in commercial rooms like Hotels, he states he will publish in a few days, he obtains the money for the advertisement and gives a numbered and printed receipt signed William Belton, if found please arrest and wire where I will send an officer with Warrant for him.
