From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...From Superintendent Wood to All Stations – Copy of message from Police Chesham Bucks. Between 2.40 and 6 a.m. 22nd the dwelling house of Arthur Edward Frank J.P. of Chartridge was entered by means of opening the drawing room window, plated spoons and forks were tied up in a handkerchief and left in house, burglar disturbed. Between 10.30 p.m. on 21st and 8 a.m. on 22nd dwelling house of Albert Richard Crawley of Chartridge was entered by means of Burglary by back door which was left unlocked, stolen an old English Lever watch in case, gold hour hands minute hand broken [unreadable Ed.] value £2, one ounce of Shag tobacco, 1 1/4 lb beef steak, 1/2 lb pork sausages uncooked, one loaf, 17 s 8 1/2 d in cash, by a man suspected age 30, 5 ft 5 or 6, fair hair & moustache, brown suit, black hard hat, who carries a small flag basket with umbrella through handle.
