From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...From Deputy Chief Constable to All Stations – Description of a bicycle which was left at a Coffee Tavern here on the evening of 24th Inst and not yet called for a gents Pneu make bicycle 26 in frame, free wheel, front and back rim brakes [unreadable Ed.] Transfer on head [unreadable Ed.] makers Thompson & Watts Albany Road, Cardiff, Pulmans saddle, Miller & Co. lamp, Warwick tyres 28 X 1 1/2 ins, plated rims, green enamel centre and spokes, rat trap pedals with toe clips, mud guards, tool bag, by a man age 30, 5 ft 7, slight build, dark complexion, dark brown hair and moustache, fresh cut scar on nose and knuckles of one hand, dress dark grey jacket, dark trousers, grey cap, flannel shirt, blue wrap with stripes and brown lace up boots. Stated that he belonged to the National Telephone Company and took lodgings for himself and two others stating they were going to work on a job at Hitchin which would take them about 6 weeks (false).
