From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...From Superintendent Wood to All Stations – Wanted for rape upon an imbecile woman at Watford on the evening of 11th April 03 a man known as Bill Baines or Barnes, a painter age about 45 years, about 5 ft 8, complexion pale, hair brown, heavy brown moustache, rather round shouldered, dress light grey suit, dark overcoat velvet collar, check cap, heavy black lace boots, carrying a flag basket with food, this man is believed to belong to Stoke near Slough. Warrant will be applied for, please cause enquiries to be made & if found detain and wire when an officer will be sent for him.
