Burglary - High Cross
From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...From Superintendent Duke to All Stations – Stolen from a dwelling house at High Cross, Standon between 6 & 8.30 a.m. on 21st Inst, 3/- in money, 1 cotton shirt with blue lines in about 1/4 inch squares man’s size nearly new value 2/6, and a blue serge cap with ventilating lining value 9d, the property of Walter Mills, by a man age 28 to 30, 5 ft 7, stiff build, dark brown hair and moustache but otherwise clean shaven, dress light tweed jacket & cap, cord trousers, black lace boots, a Farm Labourer native of Scotland supposed to have been in the army, this man was taken in as a lodger on 20th Inst. Please cause enquiries & if the shirt & cap are found or traced to his possession please detain and wire.
