Stolen Bicycle - Hertford
From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...From Superintendent Shore to All Stations – Hired on 28th Inst at 11.30 a.m. and not yet returned a bicycle of the following description, a gents 25 in frame enamelled black picked out blue, free wheel with only a thumb lever front rim brake, flat handlebars, the back hub screwed on the left hand side for hand brake, usual parts plated, rubber pedals, Dunlop tyres, 28 in wheels, Bell and lamp, transfer on head and down tube “Richards Beau Ideal” and agents name, J Wackett, 81 St Andrews Street, Hertford, by a man who asked for the machine to go to a place about 7 miles distant and stated he was a Porter at the Hospital, age from 20 to 25, 5 ft 9 or 10, complexion fair, has a cast in one eye, slight moustache, blue serge jacket suit and cap, black boots, wearing gloves, of respectable appearance, please cause enquiries at Hospitals and other likely places, if found arrest wire to Superintendent of Police Hertford.
