From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...From Superintendent Duke to All Stations – Stolen between 9.30 p.m. 25th Inst and 7.15 a.m. 26th Inst from the Co-operative Stores, Burford Street, Hoddesdon, entrance effected by climbing water pipe in front of shop and breaking a pane of glass in upstairs window, one pair of mens boots size 10 no nails, one ditto size 9 no nails, quantity of mens socks the property of the Society, one green coloured Mackintosh nearly new the property of George Tingay manager, a few coppers were also taken from the till, 6 pairs of boots were found in a bag ready to take away, these stores are unoccupied at night.
