From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...From Deputy Chief Constable to All Stations – Hired from Messr’s [possible Hollister Ed.] and Robertson cycle dealers Stevenage at 12.30 p.m. 23rd Inst for 2 hours and not yet returned and now believed stolen a gents pneumatic bicycle Dunlop tyres equal 28 by 12 Westwood rims, Bowden back brake, machine built [unreadable Ed.] patent fittings, King pedals, no name No.1 bottom head [unreadable Ed.], 26 in frame, flat handlebars, rim brake front which worked by lever and wire which runs on right side of handle, value £8 10s 0d, by a man about 25 to 30, 5 ft 8 or 9 ins, light moustache, dress blue serge suit, collar and tie, blue serge cap, black lace up boots, gave an address at Stevenage which is false.
