From: Telephone message book: 11 Aug 1902 - 27...From Deputy Chief Constable to All Stations – Stolen last night from a moveable fowl house in a field at Church Farm Holwell the property of Horace John Bard 10 fowls mixed breed various colours value 2/- each supposed of two men of the following description 1st. Age about 50, 5ft 6 or 7, sallow complexion rather freckled face, dress light cord trousers cord vest with brown cap lace up boots, has the appearance of a brickmaker, has been in the Army, burn scar on left forearm, a native of Shenley. 2nd. 22 to 23, 5ft 5 or 6, hair dark brown turned up on forehead, very light cord trousers, dark coat, brown cap, lace up boots, clean shaven dirty appearance, medium build, this man was carrying a bundle.
