    Oliver, Thomas, MM, 339, Constable
    Thomas Oliver preferred to be known as John or Jack joined the Army after the outbreak of WW1 aged 16 years. Whilst serving with the Lancashire Fusiliers he was awarded a Military Medal. Surviving the war he joined the Hertfordshire Constabulary becoming one of the last Mounted Police Officers. He served for 38 years the last 21 at High Wych.

    Hammond, Albert Edward also known as John, 89 & 231, Constable
    Having served as Private 3802 in the Bedfordshire Regiment under a false name he joined the Hertford County Constabulary in 1898 using the same name. He was recalled to the Colours on 4th December 1899 for the Boer War and after two years re-joined the Police. In 1914 he left the Police joining the Hertfordshire Regiment as a Provost Sergeant later transferring to the Military Foot Police.
