The Sergeant went to Essex to make enquiries regarding alleged cruelty towards a mare. No marks were found on the animal.

The officer received a report from Mr W. Thrift stating that the pigs he had bought from Mr Sworder’s yard in Bishop’s Stortford were suffering from swine fever. The veterinary doctor James Webb was called and the area declared infected.
