From: D.C.C. To: All Stations Stolen from 45 Batcliff Road, Hitchin between 12 midnight & 5 am 1st March, the property of James French, a white Merino Oxford shirt, value 1s/6d, by Fred Smith, who had lodged at the house some time previously. Age 25 to 30, 5ft 5, medium build, looks under eyelashes, light moustache, hair brown, fringe in front, complexion fair, two teeth deficient in front. Dress- jacket & vest, two buttons off vest, dark trousers & dark cap. This man drew the staple from the barn to gain possession of his bicycle, a road racer, and stole the shirt. At the same time, he also took away a latch key belonging to the house and left without paying his board and lodging. He is a moulder by trade and has worked at Messrs Spencer & Co & Son works, Hitchin. If found & shirt & kay traced to his possession, arrest and wire to the D.C.C. of Herts.Police officer
