From: Telephone message book: 24 Oct [1904] - ...Message to all stations seeking a gentleman accused of obtaining… [illegible] lodging by false… [illegible] and stealing one half… [illegible] shilling and some coppers from his lodgings at no. 20 Ickleford Road, Hitchin early on Jan 9 1905. Age 21, 5ft 7, fair complexion and hair blue eyes, clean shaven, wearing black jacket and vest, dark trousers with white stripes, dark cap, pink tie, brown boots been blacked. This man is riding a new bicycle with nottingham cycle works thereon “the swift” painted down the front.
