The officer visited Bishop’s Stortford to take a report against Edward Silvester, landlord of the Nags Head Beer House in Hockerill, and one against Charles White, a higgler from Little Hadham.

Accompanied by PC Hassell, the officer visited public beer houses in the parish of Bishop’s Stortford and Thorley in plain clothes. At 2.30pm, enquiries were also made into a robbery at Mr Crampton’s residence.
