By Elaine B

At 7 p.m. on Sunday 24th December 1916 a report was received from Mr Sermly of Rye Street, that a woman had been found unconscious, lying on the footpath near Doctor Mewman’s house. P.C. Briden then went with Mr Sermly to the spot and discovered that the woman had been taken into a house opposite to be attended to. They ascertained that the lady in question was Miss Enid Varley from Portland Road, and she was then taken home to her mother’s by motor. Report submitted and auctioned by J.Briden P.C. 199.
