Hertfordshire Mercury, 16th October 1915

Transcript

At Ware Petty Sessions on Tuesday Charles Cook ( 22), a labourer, of Ware Road, Hoddesdon, was summoned for driving a cart without a light.  He pleaded guilty.  PC Frogley said that on September 30, at 10 p.m., he was in the High Street, Stanstead Abbotts, when he saw a horse drawing a light cart which had no light on it.  He called to the driver to stop, and pointed out to him that he had no light.  The defendant replied that he had been to Hadham and he had a candle there, which he thought would last until he got to Rye Park, but it had burnt out.  Fined 6 shillings.
