Asleep in the hay

Transcript

At Cheshunt Petty Sessions George Everitt (33), of Roydon, hay carter, was summoned for riding asleep on a cart at Hoddesdon on July 19.  He pleaded guilty.  P.c. Berry proved finding the defendant asleep in the bottom of a hay cart.  The defendant said he was sorry, but it was impossible to keep awake when he had to journey to London every night.  Fined 3s. or 5 days.
